In Search of Green, drawing
In Search of Green, drawing

5 keys to successful hands-on activities

  1. keep it simple, build on skills

  2. be open-minded to outcomes, have no expectations

  3. say what you see, "This is a green circle shape here..."

  4. experiment, find connections

  5. HAVE FUN!

Some ideas

shapes
stamp printing
create patterns down the middle, around the edges
or just stamp once
on cards
write a note to your best friend about your day

colors
watercolors or markers
color areas, mix colors, apply water
make books by folding the paper down the center
and cutting in the middle of the center fold
to pooch the middle pages out
write poems on the pages

pasting
tearing paper and pasting it
2 colors of paper,
one background, cut or tear the other
into strips and shapes
make a dreamscape map
write all your secret, dreamy fabulous places
and show how you get there

sculpting in air
assemble a stuffed shape
two matching shapes,
decorated to your heart's content,
stuff with newspaper strips,
staple the edges, put sparkles on it,
hang danglies and a suspender string,
bits of foil and ribbon
hang it
write about airy movement
